Requirements to be licensed:

• Pass the state general contractors exam
• Submit the certified application for initial licensure; the board must determine that financial stability/responsibility and good moral character exist.
• 4 years experience, with at least one year working on buildings at least 4 stories high.  College credits from an accredited college may be used in lieu of hands-on experience, but additional supervisory years are required.

In 2006 the Construction Industry Licensing Board ordered $8,800,000 in restitution to injured consumers and revoked 172 licenses.
